OUR MISSION

Great Lakes Tinned Fish exists to represent what makes the Great Lakes so great in every bite or experience.

Our guiding principles steer us toward purposeful, sustainable business that honors the Great Lakes ecosystem and the natural resources we hold dear.

Guiding Principles

Steered toward purposeful, sustainable business, we honor the Great Lakes ecosystem and the natural resources we hold dear. By celebrating Great Lakes flavor, culinary innovation, sustainable fishing practices, and supporting our region's commercial fishing industry, we embody the Midwestern spirit of hospitality.

A COMMITMENT TO CONSERVATION AT HEART

Bringing tinned fish to the Great Lakes

The Great Lakes must be treated with great care to be enjoyed for generations to come. Learning from and working with partners and experts – from Fishtown Preservation Society, MI Sea Grant and statewide research institutions to local tribes and family-owned fisheries, it takes a village to coordinate responsible actions and future-minded solutions to continue utilizing the natural resources available to us as stewards of our waters.

We are a part of the collective, and we’ll look for opportunities to engage in the ongoing dialogue and work that this requires.

HOME SWEET MICHIGAN

Tins with tons of flavor

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Great Lakes Tinned Fish is inspired by every lakeside memory, boating excursion, and fish fry that reminds us of home. The Mitten State will always play a special role in this business’ future, but whether you’re a born-and-raised Michigander, a frequent visitor, or have never stepped foot in this great state, we hope you’ll feel right at home while enjoying our product. Let the Midwestern spirit of hospitality soak into every can…

You never know, it just might inspire you to book a trip to our sandy beaches and charming coastal towns. Whatever it stirs in you, great things start with that feeling of place in mind. Supporting local will always be a part of our mission.

Inspiration, all around

Great Lakes Tinned Fish has been made possible by every industry interaction – belly up to a bar in Traverse City, shucking oysters dockside in Boston, attending local food shows in Grand Rapids, hosting dinner clubs and dinner parties with local chefs and caterers – where belief in an idea led to a spark of recognition…and the rest is history. Continuing to work in partnership will create real ripples of impact and tasty results. Here’s to continuing to roll up our sleeves and dig in, together.

A note from Marissa, founder of Great Lakes Tinned Fish

Thanks so much for being here and embarking on this journey with me. We may share a passion for the Great Lakes, hosting a good dinner party, or tinned fish – hopefully all of the above! – and finding kindred spirits makes all the effort worthwhile. Whether you’re new to tinned fish (a “seacuterie meet cute” as I like to say) or a seasoned afishionado, you’re welcome at my table. I hope you’ll feel all the warmth of Midwestern hospitality, at every interaction.

Welcome to the Great Lakes party. Pull up a seat and grab a plate. ♥︎
